Samuel was a man of faith like his mother was a woman of faith. He sons turned out to be worthless men. Still, the Bible presents Samuel as a great man: a prophet, judge, priest, and executioner. His faith was great (Heb. 11:32-24). His influence on the succeeding generation was tremendous (1 Sam. 19:20).

This sermon covers the conditions of Israel when Samuel came on the scene, the fact he restored a respect for God among the people, and confronted king Saul on many occasions.

Manasseh’s Other Legacy

Some men waste decades living in sin. They rebel against God and influence others to sin. One of the worst things they do is impact their children’s lives, whether leading them into sin or simply by the consequences that befall the innocent.

Manasseh left such a legacy. His sin was awful. He persuaded a nation to reject God and worship idols. He corrupted his son who never repented.

We can learn from Manasseh to not waste our lives in sin…and to not waste those around us.

Profile of Faith: Abraham 2

Abraham is an example of what it is to truly have faith in God (Heb. 11:17-19). He was determined to serve God and trusted in Him during difficult circumstances. He believed God’s word and put Him first in his life.

This sermon looks at Abraham’s desire to have an heir, his great faith as shown in the sacrifice of Isaac, and asks the question of how much faith do we have?

The Bible tells us Abraham was a great man of faith. In fact, it can be argued he is the second most influential man to have ever lived. The first is Jesus Christ. Abraham is looked to by Mulsims, Jews, and Christians alike (rightly or wrongly). He is the man God chose from all men through which to bring the Messiah. Abraham is honored in both the Old and New Testaments; one whose life stands out among the servants of God.

This sermon examines the fact that Abraham came from a cultured society, he was called to serve God, and the challenges he faced with Lot.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is to send forth, send away, dismiss, or give up a debt. We need forgiveness because we have a debt we cannot pay. We need it to receive love and to show it (Lk. 7:47).

Forgiveness can be realized only in Christ and it is our duty to forgive one another. Without these, we will never be complete or content.

Noah is known as the great boat builder. He build the ark at God’s direction and survived the flood as a result. He is one of four common ancestors to all of mankind. He was a man of faith who is worthy of emulation.

This practical sermon on Noah and his life focuses on three areas: overview of Noah’s life; the good example he set; the bad example from which we should learn.

Beware Lest You Also Fall

Christians are admonished to be steadfast (1 Pet. 5:9). The devil is seeking to destroy us in any way he can. To fight against this, we are to be steadfast in the faith, the truth. There are others facing the same battle from whom we may draw strength and encouragement.

Contrary to what some denominations teach, there is a danger of falling from grace (2 Pet. 3:17, 18). Satan leads us away with lies, false doctrine, and temptations of the flesh. When we give in to him, we separate ourselves from the Lord.

This sermon examines falling away: its reality, its reasons, and its remedy.

God’s Power To Salvation

Fear Of The Lord

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Prov. 1:7). It is better to wise than a fool. To gain knowledge and wisdeom from the Lord, you must listen to and respect Him.

The fear of the Lord begins in the home. Parents must teach their children God’s truth. Respect for God starts with respect for parents. If there is no respect for parents, there is little hope of there ever being a respect for God.

The Practical Benefits Of Being A Christian (2)

There is a temptation to envy those in the world; they appear to be living the life. The fun, money, and popularity is a strong draw to pull us away from God and into the world. The Bible warns us to not envy the world (Prov. 23:17, 18). What they do and have is not important and we will give an account for our lives.

This lesson is part two of two. It covers the daily value of being a Christian: work as a blessing, avoding harm, better relationships.
