What The Bible Says About Homosexuality
The Bible teaches homosexuality is a sin. Some today do not believe it. In fact, they teach the Bible accepts homosexuals as they are with no change required in their life. However, they do this in contradiction to the word of God.
From the beginning, God made it clear about sexual relations and intimate companionship. He made a woman for the man (Gen. 2:18-23). He did not make another man for Adam. He also said the man is to leave father and mother and be joined to his wife, not his husband (Gen. 2:24).
The account of Sodom and Gomorrah serves as an everlasting example of God’s attitude toward homosexuality (Jude 7; 2 Pet. 2:6). When the messengers visited Lot, the men of the city demanded sex with them (Gen. 19:4, 5). God destroyed the cities and surrounding area because of their gross immorality.
In Leviticus, the Lord gave laws concerning Israel; including laws governing sexual relations. In Leviticus 20:13, male on male sexual relations is condemned. Under the Mosaic Law, it was punishable by death.
The New Testament expresses the same condemnation about homosexual acts. The Holy Spirit revealed that homosexuals and sodomites will not inherit the kingdom of God, that is, they will lose their souls in hell (1 Cor. 6:9, 10). To be sure, so will other sinners. It is not that homosexuality is the only sin condemned, but it is a sin and must be forsaken.
Paul also writes about the ancient Gentiles and their depraved condition. He stated that their homosexuality was “vile,” “against nature,” “shameful,” and “error” (Rom. 1:26, 27, NKJV). They received a penalty; stood condemned. He wraps up the condemnation of this and other sins by saying, “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them” (Rom. 1:32). We are not advocating people go out and kill homosexuals. What we are stating is that homosexuality is a sin; no matter what our modern culture says to the contrary.
The good thing is that homosexuals can be forgiven of their sin, just like an adulterer can. They can leave their sin just like a drunkard can. “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Cor. 6:11).
